Intermission

Let me just start by saying, I know its been a while. But to be honest there hasn't been that much to tell, but I will go over a brief run through of events over the last few months since I got to Ottawa. I would also like to welcome Auntie Julie to the viewing audience. I will hopefully start to update again more often, though the topics may not be related to my travels.

Ok now where to begin. Once upon a time in a land far far away...yes that sounds good. Ottawa, what can be said about Ottawa...Think Canberra, and make it alot colder in winter. Yes that should do it. The night I got here was a night of many firsts.... well one anyway. I sampled something that they refer to as "Poutine", its quite an interesting food really... Tis a combination of fries, gravy, and cheese curd. Quite nice... though not overly social on the waistline. Alot of places seem to make it.

Sleeping arrangements are kinda cramped, given there is 3 people and a medium size dog in a 1 bedroom apartment. First couple of nights, I had a nice cozy section of floor. right by the window. But that didn't last long, I went for a walk down to the walmart, and purchased a matress, it must have been a funny site for those driving along the road, to see a man with a matress on his head walking along the street, at about 5pm, with snow all around the place. I also got myself an ikea inspired desk, and plastic storage unit for my clothes. We rearranged the layout of the lounge room a bit to accommodate me. I now sleep on a matress behind a tv cabinet, and infront of a wall. Its a cozy little establishment, but it serves the purpose.

I've joined a gym, and have found myself a job. The gym is about a 15 min walk away, and I work for Dell. Tis just basic techsupport but it will give me some dosh so my travels can continue. We are still in training though. We did however take our first live call on friday, so very exciting...no really it was...why does nobody believe me when I say that. :(

Anyway on to more pressing matters, hmmm not that isn't right. On to other matters. The first while I was here, WOW took up a large percentage of time, though that has all but stopped now. The gym, and work have been the main priority till I get some more money, and can move on again. Where to next you might ask, well I've decided Calgary, for a couple of reasons, I now have friends there thanks to my little trip before work started, The average wage is higher, and there are lots of jobs, and last byt not least, because bec is coming over. Oh and I had heaps of fun there when I went.

Now about my current place of employ. Dell is an awesome company to work for. Lots of potential for growth, and the people/ management are great. On my first orientation day, I was chatting with a fellow starter outside the building at the end of the day, and one of the big wigs, just wandered up and introduced himself, said welcome to the company etc. This compared with griffith, where after 3 years of employ the big wig finally met me. Twas quite a funny experience to be honest. If I was looking for a company to stay with and build a career Dell would be a great option. Unfortunately.. I have the travel bug again, and am itching to move on. Just need to save a bit of money before it happens.

Yesterday was our first pay check from dell. So a few of us did the only logical thing, we went and had a few drinks at one of the irish pubs. As always the food was great, and the kilkenny flowed freely. Was good to get to know a few of the "boys" on a social level. And given I had been here for a couple of months and not gone out, it was great to go out and be social for a bit.

Well that covers most of the stuff that has been happening over here. I'll update again soon about my preliminary trip to Calgary. And my introduction to the great ol' game of hockey. But now it is time for some grub. Hello Pizza Pizza Pizza, and wings.
